Release of the Defence Test and Evaluation Strategy

On 24 August 2021, the Vice Chief of the Defence Force approved the Defence T&E Strategy which provides a vision for T&E across Defence, and articulates the desired 2030 future state of the capability.

The Strategy was developed in consultation with a broad stakeholder group including the Groups’ and Services’ T&E Principals, 30 industry partners, and four academic institutions. On 27 September 2021, the Defence T&E Strategy was launched on a new Defence T&E Strategy internet site. The Strategy:
a. outlines the strategic drivers, and needs for change that Defence must address as part of a wider sovereign T&E capability
b. provides achievable outcomes that can be assigned to Defence
c. informs industry, other Government Departments, academia, and the wider Defence community; offering opportunities to contribute to the development of a sovereign T&E capability
d. supports achievement of key initiatives within the Defence

Transformation Strategy; and the Sovereign Industrial Capability Priority Plan for Test, Evaluation, Certification and Systems Assurance released by the Minister for Defence Industry in December 2020.

The Strategy provides short, medium, and longer term horizon-based objectives along four priority lines of effort, to ensure the enterprise T&E capability will meet Defence’s future requirements. The lines of effort are:
a. Governance and Assurance
b. Workforce
c. Defence Training & Test Environment
d. Technology

Achievements within each line of effort will be monitored and managed through a companion T&E Implementation Plan that maps each line of effort through to the desired outcomes for the Defence T&E enterprise.

Head Force Integration has established a new Defence T&E Directorate to lead the execution of the Strategy. Hard copies of the Defence T&E Strategy are available for distribution by contacting the Defence T&E Directorate:
